You’re standing at the edge of Zlatni Rat Beach, the golden horn that is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful in Europe. There’s nobody there. You have the beach, turquoise waters, and views of the surrounding islands all to yourself.
This is because you decided to spend the night in Bol.
Most people who visit Bol don’t come to stay. They visit as a day trip from Split, or a short stop on the way to or from Hvar. It’s a perfectly reasonable plan. But it’s also the wrong one.
Staying in Bol has a number of advantages, but the biggest is that you get to visit Zlatni Rat (the famous beach) during off-peak hours. You’ll be able to visit early in the morning or sunset, when the ferries are all long gone.
Bol also has its own vibe that makes it worth the stay – a relaxed, unhurried vibe that is almost the antithesis of Hvar.
Two nights here, done right, is one of the better decisions you can make on a Croatia island hopping trip.
Here’s where to stay in Bol, for every budget and group size.
Note: You’re not only coming to Bol to sleep! Here’s my list of the 6 Best Things to Do in Bol.

Best Luxury Stays in Bol
For each property, I’ll be listing price and rating. Note that the price I list is the standard price during peak season – if you’re not visiting during peak season (and even sometimes if you are), the price will likely be far less.
It’s worth clicking the link below each property to check the price for your exact dates.
Note: Make sure to look for the “backup options” box (looks like this) which I’ve included under each property. Check it out in the event that the main option I’ve listed is sold out for your dates. I didn’t pick them randomly – most are just as good as the original options!
Best for Solo Travelers / Couples: Lifestyle Hotel Vitar
Price: $300 USD
9.7 rating from 800+ reviews on Booking.com
Lifestyle Hotel Vitar has everything you’d want in a luxury stay.
The rooms are modern and tasteful, with options for balconies with a view. The hotel itself is beautiful, and a nice breakfast is included – which doesn’t hurt.
The star of the show is the rooftop infinity pool, hot tub, and terrace, which have the most incredible views out to sea.
You’ll be able to see Hvar, Zlatni Rat, and the town of Bol spread out in front of you.
Like most accommodations on this list, prices drop drastically in the off-season – so it’s worth it to check.

Backup Option: Villa Giardino Heritage Boutique Hotel. Another great luxury with gorgeous rooms (but no rooftop pool).
Best for Small Groups (3-4): Zlatni Rat Beach Resort
Price: $800 USD (but sometimes big discounts in peak season)
9.2 rating from 500+ reviews on Booking.com
The value here is largely in the location. You’re as close as you can possibly get to Zlatni Rat. Literally a three minute walk away.
And that’s not to say the resort isn’t nice as well.
They offer a 4-person room with a private garden and hot tub that looks awesome. And breakfast for everyone is included.
The price looks like it fluctuates drastically, but look to pay between $500-900 in peak season.

Backup Option: Bluesun Holiday Village Bonaca. Another resort vibe, nicer rooms make up for not being located right on Zlatni Rat.
Best for Large Groups (5-6): Villa Mediterranea
Price: $850 USD
9.6 rating from 350+ reviews on Booking.com
Moving on to the larger groups, Villa Mediterranea has everything – great location right off the waterfront promenade and a wonderful property.
Villa Mediterranea offers a deluxe 6-person suite that includes two king beds and one sofa bed. You get a gorgeous balcony overlooking the sea, and there’s a stunning pool on the property as well.
The villa has a much more private vibe than the other luxury options I’ve listed. If you like that but don’t have a big group, I suggest you look at their smaller options as well (they have some 2-person rooms).

Backup Option: Not many great luxury options for large groups in Bol! I would recommend booking multiple rooms at any one of the earlier options.
Best Mid-Range Stays in Bol
Best for Solo Travelers / Couples: Hotel SOL
Price: $200 USD
9.0 rating from 500+ reviews on Booking.com
Hotel SOL is definitely one of the best value picks on this whole list.
The hotel has a pool, hot tub, terrace and provides beautiful rooms, each with a balcony that gives an incredible view over the sea.
But the true star here is the location. Hotel SOL is located right by the waterfront promenade and the beginning of the walking path to Zlatni Rat Beach.
Prices can easily drop below $200 USD in certain parts of peak season, especially if you book in advance- so check early!

Backup Option: Boutique Hotel Bol. Similar quality, just slightly more expensive and further up the road.
Best for Small Groups (3-5): Villa Mira
Price: $220 USD
9.3 rating from 250+ reviews on Booking.com
Villa Mira is located just above the town over the hillside, which allows for a spectacular view.
Their 2-bedroom apartment is perfect for a group of 3-4, and a sofa bed allows for 5 as well.
The place is nothing fancy, but it’s great value and I’d say the view is worth it alone.
They also have great double rooms that are an excellent mid-range option if the two above are booked up.

Backup Option: Villa Juraj. More expensive (around $350 for their triple room with balcony), but incredible spot with amazing views.
Best for Large Groups (5-6): Apartments Villa Azzurra Bol
Price: $290 USD
9.0 rating from 250+ reviews on Booking.com
I’m not going to say this is equal to the luxury option earlier, but it’s certainly not worse enough to justify a $500 difference. The value you get here is incredible.
Villa Azzurra’s 2 bedroom apartment sleeps 6, with 3 beds, 3 baths, a living room, kitchen, and large terrace. You won’t get many similar places for the price.
When you click below, scroll down to the ‘Duplex Two-Bedroom Apartment with Terrace and Sea View’ option. If it’s not listed for your dates, it means it sold out- this property tends to book up early.

Backup Option: La Mer 1. Beautiful apartment and even cheaper, but tends to sell out very quickly in summer months.
Best Budget Stays in Bol
There aren’t many options in Bol that will run you under $100 a night in peak season, and some of the ones that will are not worth it.
But I’ve picked a few of the best.
Best for Solo Travelers / Couples: Rooms Anđelka
Price: $85 USD
9.3 rating from 70+ reviews on Booking.com
To pay under $100 a night and still get a terrace with a sea view is pretty remarkable.
Rooms Anđelka offers two simple double rooms (one with a queen and one with a king), with a kettle to make coffee and tea, and yes – a small terrace with a view of the sea.
For the real budget travelers out there waiting for a wash, they also provide a washing machine. That was big for my friends and I when we arrived in Bol.
The only thing that may bother some is that the two rooms share a bathroom- that being said, it’s clean and well-equipped.

Backup Option: Apartments Marjanovic. Slightly pricier but with private bathroom, kitchen, and larger balcony.
Best for Groups: Apartments Mija
Price: $170 USD
9.6 rating from 90+ reviews on Booking.com
Apartments Mija has several 4-person apartment options, with most coming with a private kitchen and sea-view terrace.
It’s located on the far end of Bol, which means that you’re a little further from Zlatni Rat but right by Martinica Beach, a hidden gem that you should definitely check out regardless of where you stay.

Backup Option: Apartments Savica. Ground floor, so no sea view- but spacious and slightly cheaper.

Booking Tips
Try and Book Early if Possible
Some of the more popular and limited spots on this list tend to sell out quickly for the summer months.
If you have the ability, book as early as possible! Many of the properties have free cancellation policies anyway, so there’s really no reason not to.
The reality is that with all the options and backup options on this list, it’s unlikely you’ll be left without a single one of them available.
In that unlikely event, there will still be plenty of great places to stay – even if they didn’t get the Bold Passport mark of approval. Check out all available options in Bol with the link below. I suggest filtering for ratings!
Best Time of Year to Visit Bol
The Croatian islands are a summer destination. There’s no doubt about it.
However, the shoulder season has its advantages.
While I wouldn’t suggest visiting Bol in the dead of winter, visiting just outside the peak months (April-early June, September) is optimal for getting both good weather and lower prices.
It’s truly remarkable how much some of these accommodations dip in price when you aren’t looking in the thick of summer.
Waterfront vs. Hillside
Bol rises somewhat steeply from the coast, and you may have noticed how a lot of the villas and apartments are perched up on the hillside with incredible views of the water.
It’s a short climb, and no problem for anyone in decent physical shape, but if that sounds difficult – or if you’re traveling with anyone who might struggle – stick to the waterfront.
Several of the options on this list are close to the waterfront, including Hotel SOL, Villa Mediterranea, and Zlatni Rat Beach Resort.
VAT & City Tax
Don’t be caught off guard by the 13% VAT tax.
A 13% VAT (value-added tax) is standard in Bol. Be prepared to have cash- sometimes they only take cash for it!
