Privacy & Disclosure
Note: Short version: some links on this blog are affiliate links, so I may earn a small commission if you book through them, at no extra cost to you. The site uses a few standard tools (analytics, an email signup, booking widgets) that set cookies. I don’t sell your personal information. The details are below.
Affiliate Disclosure
The Bold Passport is a one-person travel blog, and affiliate links are a big part of how it pays for itself. When you click a link to a hotel, tour, booking site or travel product and then buy something, the company may pay me a commission. The price you pay is the same either way.
I only recommend places and services I’ve used myself or researched carefully, and I say so when a recommendation is research rather than first-hand. No company pays to be featured, and a commission never decides what I write.
Partners I currently work with include Booking.com, Expedia, Agoda, Hostelworld, GetYourGuide, 12Go, Omio, Discover Cars, Skyscanner and SafetyWing, through programs such as Stay22, Travelpayouts, Awin and Impact. Some links are automatically turned into affiliate links when you click them.
Privacy Policy
This page explains what information this website (theboldpassport.com) collects, why, and what you can do about it. The site is run by David Rubinstein.
What gets collected
- Visit statistics. I use Google Analytics and Jetpack Stats (by WordPress.com) to see which pages people read and where they come from. These tools use cookies and collect things like your approximate location, device, browser and the pages you visit. I only look at totals, not at individual people.
- Email signup. If you sign up for my emails, your email address is stored by Omnisend, my email provider, and used only to send you those emails. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Comments. If you leave a comment, the site stores your name, email address, website (if you give one), the comment itself, and your IP address and browser details to help catch spam. Your email address is never shown publicly. An anonymized version of your email may be sent to Gravatar to show your profile picture.
- Contact form. If you message me through the contact page, I receive what you write plus your name and email address, and I use them only to reply.
- Affiliate and booking links. When you click an affiliate link, the partner (for example Booking.com via Stay22 or Travelpayouts) sets its own cookie so it knows the booking came from this blog. I see bookings and commissions, not who you are.
Embedded content from other sites
The site includes content from other websites: Google Maps, maps from my app Offpath, GetYourGuide tour widgets, Pinterest “Save” buttons and an Instagram feed. Embedded content behaves as if you had visited that website, and those sites may collect data about you, use cookies and track your interaction under their own privacy policies.
Cookies
Besides the analytics, email and affiliate cookies above, WordPress sets a cookie to remember your name and email if you choose to when commenting (it lasts one year). You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works without them, though affiliate partners won’t know you came from here.
Who it’s shared with and how long it’s kept
Your information is only shared with the services named on this page, which run the site for me: hosting (Bluehost), backups, analytics, email and spam protection. I don’t sell or rent personal information to anyone. Comments and their details are kept as long as the comment is on the site. Email subscribers are kept until they unsubscribe.
Your choices
You can ask me what data I hold about you, ask me to correct or delete it, or unsubscribe from emails at any time. Just get in touch through the contact page.
